LA VETA, Colo. - Brian Morfeld shot a blistering 7-under par 137 over the first two rounds, both played Monday, to lead the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs into first place at the Peaks Classic at Grandote Peaks Golf Club.

Morfeld shot a 2-under par 70 in the morning round and came back to scorch the afternoon round to the tune of 67. He and Grand View's Josh Manske (6-under par 138) were the only players under par for the day.

Morfeld's UCCS teammate, Michael Tilghman, finished the day tied for third at even par. Another Mountain Lion, Riley Andrews, was in fifth at 1-over par.

The Mountain Lions enter Tuesday's final round with a team score of 574 (2-under par), 15 strokes ahead of second-place Grand View. Fort Lewis one more stroke back at 590, followed by Wayland Baptist (596), Lubbock Christian (598) and Mesa State (599).

The tournament is also the first of four Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference golf events. The RMAC champion will be determined by the result of those three tournaments.
