UCCS Finishes Eighth in Spring Season's First Tournament

LIVERMORE, Calif. : The University of Colorado at Colorado Springs shot Tuesday's sixth-best round but couldn't make up enough ground to move beyond eighth place in the final round at the Notre Dame de Namur Argonaut Invitational at Poppy Ridge Golf Club.

The Mountain Lions shot a team score of 300 Tuesday, placing behind the schools that finished in the top five for the tournament.

Cal State-Stanislaus shot 9-under par 279 to move past Day 1 leader Chico State and win the tournament with a three-round score of 279. Chico State held on for second with a 291 Tuesday and 865 overall. Cal State-Monterey Bay took third (871), followed by Grand Canyon (879), Western Washington (886), Dixie State and Holy Names (each at 893) and UCCS (897).

Chris Shoop shot a 2-under par 70 to lead the Mountain Lions. His three-round score of even-par 216 tied him for sixth in the individual medalist race.

Spencer Biersdorff was second among UCCS golfers with a score of 225, which tied him for 27th overall. Brian Morfeld shot a 229, Riley Andrews a 231 and Taylor Stamp a 259.

Cal State-Monterey Bay's Scott Yeakel took individual medalist honors with an 8-under par 208, edging Cal State-Stanislausâ€TM Trevor Blair by one stroke. Xavier Bailey of Western Washington took third at 212.
