Chris Shoop, Wade Henry and Brian Morfeld all went under par in the second round as the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs finished the first day of the Grand Canyon Invitational in fourth place.

The Mountain Lions finished the first round at the Golf Club at Estrella, also played on Monday, in a ninth-place tie at 298. Thanks to the three sub-par second rounds, UCCS dropped to 288 in Round 2 to climb five spots.

Shoop's 3-under par 69 led UCCS' climb and was tied for the second-best round of the day. The junior from Phoenix struggled in the first round, however, and finished the day tied for 15th at 146. Henry led the Mountain Lions with a two-round score of 145, including a 1-under par 71 in the second round, and goes into Tuesdayâ€TMs final round tied for seventh. Morfeld also shot 71 in Round 2 and, at 147, is tied for 17th.

Spencer Biersdorff was UCCS' top scorer in the first round at 72, but slipped to 77 in the second round and now sits in a tie for 26th. David Cosel is tied for 49th at 153.

Julian Valenciana of Oklahoma City followed up a tournament-best 67 with an even-par 72 and goes into Tuesday's round in first place at 5-under par. Doug Manske of Fort Lewis and Brian Barhanovich of Western Washington are tied for second, three strokes back.

Western Washington finished Monday's play in first place on the team scoreboard at 574 (2-under par). Oklahoma City was second, three strokes back, followed by Chico State (580), UCCS (586) and Western New Mexico (590).
