UCCS ranked No. 23 nationally
The University of Colorado at Colorado Springs men's golf team is ranked 23rd nationally in the first Golf World/Nike Golf Division II Coaches' Poll of the fall season, which was released on Thursday.
UCCS is one of only three schools among the Top 25 from a state that experiences a winter during which golfing is unrealistic. The others are Indianapolis (No. 13) and Ferris State from Ohio (No. 17). The rest of the Top 25 hail from Georgia (four teams), California (five), Florida (five), South Carolina (two), Oklahoma (two), plus one each from Alabama, Texas, Arizona and North Carolina.
Georgia College was the number one team in the poll, earning nine of the 18 first place-votes. The Bobcats won their season opener, the Kiawah Island Invitational, by seven strokes and finished fifth at the SpringHill Suites Invitational, losing to three D-I programs.
Rounding out the top-five are Columbus State (No. 2), Barry (No. 3), Sonoma State (No. 4) and Lynn (No. 5)
