Bishop Earns Second RMAC Men's Golfer of the Week Award

By Doug Fitzgerald published October 2, 2008

COLORADO SPRINGS - Tyler Bishop of the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs was named the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference men's golfer of the week, the conference announced Thursday.

Bishop shot a three-round score of 208 (5-under par) to win the NCAA Division II Preview Tournament, which was played Monday and Tuesday at Loomis Trail Golf Club in Blaine, Wash. His score was two strokes better than Matt Ewald of Washburn and Andrew Green of Central Washington.

Bishop's victory was even more impressive when the quality of the field was factored. Fourteen of the 20 teams were ranked among the top 25 nationally in the Golf World/Nike Coaches' Poll and five others were listed as also receiving votes. UCCS came into the tournament ranked No. 24.

Bishop, a senior from Longmont, has now shot eight consecutive below-par rounds. His other four rounds this season were even par.

It was the second time this season that Bishop has won RMAC golfer of the week. Teammate Riley Andrews also won the honor, giving the Mountain Lions three of the four awarded so far this season.
