Mountain Lions Golfers Picked to Win RMAC in Preseason Poll
The University of Colorado at Colorado Springs was picked to win the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference in the RMAC's preseason men's golf coaches' poll, which was released Thursday. UCCS senior Tyler Bishop was picked at the conference's preseason player of the year.
Mountain Lions teammate David Cosel joined Bishop on the preseason all-conference team. Also named were Western New Mexico's Scott Crichton, Colorado State-Pueblo's David Duarte and Colorado Christian's Jon Klingensmith.
The Mountain Lions received six of seven possible first-place votes, giving them 10 points. Western New Mexico was close behind with 14 points and Fort Lewis was third with 22 points. Nebraska-Kearney was picked fourth, followed by Colorado Christian, Colorado State-Pueblo, Regis and Colorado School of Mines.
UCCS has won three consecutive RMAC championships.
Each of the conference's eight coaches picked teams to finish from one through seven, omitting their own teams. Those numbers were totaled to come up with the rankings, with the lowest total being the best projected finish.
Bishop and Cosel are two of three returning golfers from the UCCS squad that finished 12th at the NCAA Division II National Championship this past season. They were second and third on the team in scoring, averaging 73.29 and 73.94 strokes per round respectively.
