Trujillo Adds Two Recruits to Nationally-Ranked Golf Program

By Doug Fitzgerald published June 17, 2008

Looking to deepen a University of Colorado at Colorado Springs golf team that finished 12th nationally this past season, coach Phil Trujillo announced Tuesday the signing of two recruits. Joining the Mountain Lions for the 2008-09 season will be Riley Andrews, a transfer from the University of Colorado-Boulder, and Wade Henry, a transfer from Chandler-Gilbert Community College in Arizona.

Andrews was the 2004 Colorado Class 5A state champion and the 2005 state runner up while competing for ThunderRidge High School. His ninth place finish as a sophomore in 2003 gave him three top-ten finished in his career.

He finished 10th in the 2007 Colorado Golf Association Colorado Cup points standings and also qualified for the U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship. His name has been all over the leaderboards at numerous CGA events over the past three seasons. He saw limited action as a redshirt freshman for the Buffaloes this past season.

"Riley Andrews brings a lot of quality experience and his resume speaks for itself," said Trujillo. "He will be able to step right in and fill the roles of our two seniors (Eric Winder and Todd Napikoski) that are finished athletically. I think he will make a lot of good things happen for himself and our team."

Henry is coming off a 25th-place finish at the Junior College National Championship while competing for the No. 7-ranked Coyotes. For the season, his 75.167 stroke average ranked him No. 68 nationally and made him Chandler-Gilbert's freshman of the year.

"I think Wade will add the much needed depth that the team needs," said Trujillo. "He is a very steady player with a lot of determination and plays extremely well under pressure."
