COLORADO SPRINGS -- Brian Morfeld of the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs was named first-team academic All-Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, the RMAC announced Wednesday.

Morfeld, a redshirt freshman, has maintained a 3.52 GPA while majoring in Professional Golf Management and Marketing.

On the course, Morfeld is fifth among Mountain Lions golfers with a 75.78 stroke average. His final-round 70 at the Northwest Region Spring Head-to-Head tournament led UCCS golfers and helped the Mountain Lions to a first-place finish. He is currently competing at the NCAA Division II Northwest Region Golf Championship at Petaluma, Calif. Should UCCS win there, it will qualify for the NCAA Division II National Championship Tournament which will be held May 14-17 at Memorial Park Golf Club in Houston, Texas.

UCCS junior Barry Cornella was named second-team academic all-RMAC. UCCS had two other golfers who would have qualified by virtue of their respective GPAs, but were ineligible because they are first-year transfers.
