UCCS Sweeps Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Golf Awards

COLORADO SPRINGS -- The University of Colorado at Colorado Springs swept the individual awards for Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference men's golf, it was announced late Wednesday.

Todd Napikoski was named 2007-08 RMAC golfer of the year, while teammate Brian Morfeld was named freshman of the year and Phil Trujillo was named the coach of the year.

In addition, UCCS' Tyler Bishop and David Cosel joined Napikoski on the 2007-08 All-RMAC men's golf team. Other members include Greg Pool, Scott Crichton and Marcus Molina, all of Western New Mexico, and Luke Tanner of Fort Lewis.

Napikoski has been the Mountain Lions' most consistent golfer this season and leads the team with a 72.83 stroke average. He finished fifth or better in each of the four tournaments that counted towards UCCS' winning of the 2007-08 RMAC championship.

Bishop boasts a 73.5 stroke average and won the Northwest Region Spring Head-to-Head, which was played April 21-22. He finished fourth at both the RMAC Spring Championship and the Northwest Region Fall Head-to-Head. He took eighth in the fourth qualifying tournament, the RMAC Golf Event #1.

Cosel, who has a 73.96 stroke average, took fourth at fall head-to-head, eighth in the RMAC Golf Event #1 and 10th at the RMAC Spring Championship.

The Mountain Lions have now won three consecutive RMAC championships and five since 1999-2000.
