By Doug Fitzgerald published October 4, 2007

On the heels of strong performances at the Northwest Region Fall Head-to-Head Tournament and the Grand Canyon Invitational, the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs men's golf team climbed all the way to a No. 21 national ranking.

The Mountain Lions, who were 28th in the Sept. 18 poll, moved into the Top 25 in the Golfstat national rankings for the first time since 2005.

UCCS took second place at the Northwest Region tournament behind only host St. Cloud State. The Huskies are ranked No. 40.

At the Grand Canyon Invitational, UCCS took seventh. Five of the six teams that finished ahead of the Mountain Lions in that tournament are nationally ranked, four in the Top 10.

The Mountain Lions have been led this season by Todd Napikowski, who transferred to UCCS from Iowa State. The Coronado High School graduate is averaging 71.58 strokes per round. He is followed by David Cosel (72.67), Tyler Bishop (74.58), Brian Morfeld (74.67), and Eric Winder (76.17).
