UCCS Golf Signs Chan
Kevin Chan of Coronado High School signed a national letter of intent to play golf at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs, golf coach Phil Trujillo announced Friday.
Chan took second place at the Colorado 5A state golf tournament at Pinehurst Country Club in Denver on Oct. 3-4. He made a 25-foot eagle putt on No. 16 to help him finish the second round at 72, the same score he shot in the first round.
Chan tied for first at the Cougar Classic in September with another 72 and was also second in the 5A Metro League. His stoke average for his senior season was an impressive 73.25.
"This kid has talent and works extremely hard on his game," said Trujillo. "He's young and still learning but he's not afraid to put himself out there and play against the best."
A 4.2 GPA student, Chan also fits UCCS' profile as an academics-first institution.
Trujillo said that he wasn't done recruiting and hoped to add at least one more player to a Mountain Lions team that has won back-to-back Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference championships.
"(This) could be the best recruiting class and a very good future for UCCS Golf," said Trujillo.
