UCCS Charge Falls One Stroke Short
Kyle Logan and Tyler Bishop each shot 3-over par 75 as the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs made a hard charge only to come up one stroke short of the title Tuesday at the RMAC Spring Championship at the Ute creek Golf Course in Longmont.
The Mountain Lions shot a final round score of 305, seven strokes better than the next best score of the day -- Western New Mexico's 312. The Mustangs came into the final round leading by eight, though, and were able to withstand the challenge.
The teams opened with 36 holes on Monday and finished the tournament with 18 holes on Tuesday.
UCCS and Western New Mexico made it a two-team race. Third-place Colorado State-Pueblo was 26 strokes off the pace.
UCCS is still in good position to win the RMAC team title, which is determined by the aggregate score of four tournaments. Through three of those tournaments, the Mountain Lions enjoy a 46-stroke advantage over second-place Western New Mexico.
Four Mountain Lions finished among the top 10 at the RMAC Spring Championship. Bishop shot a three-round score of 217 to tie for third place, while Bishop was sixth at 220 and Ross McDermott was seventh at 222. Eric Winder grabbed 10th with a 226 and Trent Daum was 37th at 247.
Western New Mexico's Marcus Molina was the top individual finisher with a score of 214.
Logan, Bishop and McDermott were all named all-RMAC.
