UCCS in Second at RMAC Spring Championship
The University of Colorado at Colorado Springs and Western New Mexico shot the four best rounds of the day Monday to go into Tuesday's final round of the RMAC Spring Championship in second and first place respectively.
Western New Mexico shot a tournament-best 281 in Monday's first round. The Mustangs followed with a 291 later that afternoon to lead the tournament with a score of 572. The Mountain Lions shot matching 290s to finish Monday's play eight strokes back.
The teams made Tuesday's final round a two-horse race. Colorado State-Pueblo was in third place, 15 strokes behind UCCS, with a 595. Colorado Mines was fourth at 598 and Nebraska-Kearney was fifth at 601.
Despite the eight-stroke lead, Western New Mexico still trails for the RMAC title. This season, the conference champion will be determined by the aggregate score of four tournaments. After the first two, both played in the fall, UCCS had built a daunting 48-stroke lead over the second-place Mustangs.
Kyle Logan led the Mountain Lions Monday with a two-round score of 2-under par 142, good for fifth overall. Ross McDermott was one stroke back, while Tyler Bishop shot a 145, Eric Winder a 150 and Trent Daum a 162.
Western New Mexico's Trevor Keeney held the individual lead after shooting a 6-under par 138.
