Lions Leap into Seventh at SoCal

Eric Winder and Tyler Bishop each shot a 72 in Tuesday's final round to vault the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs to a seventh-place finish at the 57th annual Southern California Intercollegiate Championship in San Juan Capistrano, Calif.

The Mountain Lions topped No. 14-ranked Abilene Christian, No. 16 Washburn, No. 21 Central Oklahoma and No. 22 Cameron in the tournament. UCCS came in ranked 39th nationally.

Aside from Winder and Bishop, Kyle Logan added a 75 and Trent Daum shot a 77 in the final round at the Marbella Country Club. UCCS posted a team score of 296 in the final round, the third-best shot on the day.

UCCS three-round score of 895 was just three strokes behind Western New Mexico and Cal State-Chico, which tied for fifth.

West Florida won the team title with an 838 total. Barry (865), St. Edward's
(871), Sonoma State (872) finished two through four.

The individual title was won in a playoff by Jarin Todd of Sonoma State. Todd tied with West Florida's Leonardo Di Marino and Todd won on the first playoff hole.

Bishop's three-round total of 218 led the Mountain Lions and tied him for 17th individually. Daum and Logan were tied for 31st at 225, while Winder finished at 227. Davis Hoffman carded a 252.

The Mountain Lions' next competition will be March 19-20 at the Mustang Invitational in Albuquerque.
