UCCS Golf in Sixth After First Round at Austin
Tyler Bishop shot a 4-over par 76 to lead the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs to sixth place after the first round of the St. Edwards Springs Invitational Monday at Austin, Texas.
The second round was halted due to darkness. It will be resumed at 7:45 a.m. Tuesday, followed by the third and final round.
The Mountain Lions shot a first-round score of 320, three strokes behind Northeastern State and Barry, which were tied for fourth, and four strokes behind host St. Edwards and Cameron, which were tied for second.
Abilene Christian led after the first round with a score of 312.
Bishop's score tied him for fifth individually. Next among UCCS golfers was Kyle Logan, whose score of 78 tied him for 12th individually. Tose two were followed by Ross McDermott (81, 28th), Trent Daum (85, 57th) and Eric Winder (88, 71st).
Barry's Nick Gillaspy shot the best individual score with an even-par 72.
Five of the 14 teams competing are currently ranked among the top 20 nationally. St. Edwards (2), Abilene Christian (5), Barry (10), Central Oklahoma (11), Cameron (17) and Northeastern State (30) all came into the tournament ranked higher than No. 33 UCCS.
