UCCS golf finishes ninth in Phoenix
Trent Daum shot a 2-under par 70 Tuesday as the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs finished the Grand Canyon Invitational in ninth place.
The Mountain Lions, who came into Tuesdayâ€TMs final round tied for ninth, shot a team score of 289 tp pass point Loma Nazarene. Texas Wesleyan, which was tied with UCCS after Mondayâ€TMs first two rounds, shot a 288 to move into sole possession of eighth place.
Cal State-Stanislaus shot a tournament-best 278 Tuesday to pass Abilene Christian for first. Host Grand Canyon took second, while Abilene Christian slid all the way into a third-place tie with Cal State-Bakersfield.
UCCS junior Eric Winder came into the final round one stroke out of the lead but shot a 76, dropping him into a tie for 13th with a three round score of 214. Kyle Logan was next for the Mountain Lions with a 219, while Daum finished at 222, Tyler Bishop at 223 and Ross McDermott at 225.
Cal State-Bakersfieldâ€TMs Brady Pagulio finished in a three-way tie for first and won in a playoff over Abilene Christianâ€TMs Hugues Joannes and Cal State-Stanislausâ€TM Jason McHargue.
The Mountain Lions did have the satisfaction of picking up a point in the Steel and Silver Series by virtue of their 10-stroke win over Colorado State-Pueblo. UCCS leads the series 5-2 for 2006-07.
