The University of Colorado at Colorado Springs men's golf team will begin its season playing in the Gene Miranda Falcon Classic at the Air Force Academy on Saturday and Sunday.

This years tournament, which will be played on the Air Force Academy's Blue Course, will feature an entirely Division I field with the exception of the Mountain Lions.

Coach Phil Trujillo says his team is excited to get started and is looking forward to the season.

“We had a good week of practice after five rounds of qualifying the team will consist of two new players on the roster,” said Trujillo.

Alex Kephart, a freshman from Colorado Springs, and Ross McDermott from Durango, Colo., will start their college careers this weekend along with Chase Wortmann, John Scott (last seasonâ€TMs Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference freshman of the year) and Eric Winder.

Coach Trujillo says he's looking forward to Conference play and feels confident the team will have a good fall season.

“Our Freshman are playing some really good golf which is pushing our upper classman to play better,” said Trujillo.

Another newcomer, Kyle Logan from Lafayette, Colo., will add more depth to an already deep team.

Next weekâ€TMs tournament takes the Mountain Lions to Gothenburg, Neb., where they will play at Wildhorse Golf Club in the Fall Regional.
