Lions rally to take second

The University of Colorado at Colorado Springs golf team shot the best round of any team competing at the NCAA Division II Northwest Regional Wednesday to finish the tournament in second place.

The Mountain Lions passed Colorado State-Pueblo, which was in second place after Tuesdayâ€TMs second round, by shooting a 309 â€" five strokes better than any other team managed on Wednesday. UCCS shaved eight strokes off of Minnesota State Mankatoâ€TMs lead, ending the tournament 14 strokes behind the Mavericks.

Chase Wortmann led the Mountain Lionsâ€TM charge with a 2-over par 74. Adam Jardon shot 5-over, while Neil Huffaker and John Scott each came in at 7-over. Eric Winderâ€TMs 14-over par 86 did not count towards UCCSâ€TM team score.

Scott ended the tournament with a three-round score of 235 to finish tied for eighth individually. Wortmann shook off a poor first round to finish tied for 12th, two strokes behind Scott. St. Cloud Stateâ€TMs Chris Little and Regisâ€TM Chris Sylvia tied for the individual title at 225.
