Golf team in second at regional qualifier
Chase Wortmann shot a 3-under par 69 to lead the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs golf team into second place after the first round of the Northwest Region Fall Head-to-Head Tournament Monday.
The second round was suspended because of foul weather at Lochland Country Club in Hastings, Neb. The remainder of the second round and the entire third round will be played on Tuesday.
The tournament is one of two regional qualifiers played between the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference and the North Central Conference. The top eight teams, based on aggregate scores, will advance to the NCAA Division II Northwest Regional. The second head-to-head qualifier will be held in the spring.
CU-Colorado Springs shot 295 and trailed defending regional champion St. Cloud State by 16 strokes. Fort Hays State was third at 296 and Adams State was fourth at 300.
Wortmann was tied with St. Cloud Stateâ€TMs Erik Anderson for second place individually, two strokes behind Andersonâ€TMs teammate and defending regional champ Brett Swedberg.
Other CU-Colorado Springs golfers competing were: Neil Huffaker (74), Joe Saliba (75), Trent Daum (77) and Adam Jardon (79). Only the top four scores each round count towards the team score.
