Scott named RMAC freshman of the year
University of Colorado at Colorado Springs learned Wednesday that John Scott had been named the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Menâ€TMs Golf Freshman of the Year.
The award is given each year to the freshman with the best score at the RMAC golf championship. Scott, a graduate of Lakewood (Colo.) High School, shot a three-round score of 227 at the Meadowlark Hills Golf Club in Kearney, Neb., to tie for sixth.
Scott, who redshirted in 2003-04, was also named All-RMAC along with teammate Neil Huffaker, a sophomore from Phoenix, Ariz. Normally, the top seven finishers at the conference tournament are named All-RMAC but, because of a four-way tie for sixth, nine players received the honor.
Fort Hays Stateâ€TMs Cole Nondorf was named RMAC golfer of the year.
The following earned All-RMAC honors. The score each shot at the RMAC championship is in parentheses:
Cole Nondorf, Fort Hays State (217); Jeff Philippe, Adams State (219); Mark Vallee, Colorado Mines (221); Chris Sylvia, Regis (223); Brandon Poncho, Fort Lewis (223); John Scott, CU-Colorado Springs (227); Chris Shives, Adams State (227); Neil Huffaker, CU-Colorado Springs (227); Craig Vollmar, Colorado State-Pueblo (227).
