Van Etten leads Lions into seventh

The University of Colorado at Colorado Springs golf team shot a 299 Tuesday, the second-best round of the day, to move up to seventh at the NCAA Division II Northwest Regional golf tournament in Bellingham, Wash.

For the second consecutive round, Nick Van Etten led the Mountain Lions. He followed Mondayâ€TMs round of 75 with a sparkling even-par 72 on Tuesday to move into a tie for second among competing golfers. He, Fort Lewisâ€TM Mitchell Biss and North Dakota Stateâ€TMs Jon Miller are tied at 3-over par, five strokes behind individual leader Brett Swedburg of St. Cloud State.

The Mountain Lions Minnesota State and Nebraska Kearney by only one stroke going into Wednesdayâ€TMs final round. They trail third-place Fort Lewis and South Dakota by only six strokes.

Chase Wortmann shot a 74 Tuesday for CU-Colorado Springs. Trent Daum shot a 76 and Mark Ruybalid came in at 77.
