Golf team in eighth after first round at regionals
Nick Van Etten shot a 75 as the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs golf team finished the first round of the NCAA Division II Northwest Regional golf tournament in eighth place on Monday.
The Mountain Lions shot 309 as a team and trail seventh-place Nebraska Kearney by two strokes and sixth-place Colorado State-Pueblo by four strokes. The second round will be played Tuesday and the third round will be played Wednesday.
North Dakota State leads the tournament after shooting a 297. The winner of the regional will advance to the national championship in Orlando, Fla., on May 12-15.
Mark Ruybalid shot a 76 for CU-Colorado Springs, while Chase Wortmann came in at 78. Trent Daum and J.P. Wertz each shot 80.
