Golf team holds onto 14th

Mark Ruybalid shot a 3-over par 75 Tuesday as the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs golf team held on to finish 14th at the Aggie Invitational at El Macero, Calif.

The Mountain Lions shot 314 as a team, seven strokes better than in Mondayâ€TMs second round. They needed the recovery Tuesday to hold off a challenge from 15th-place Sonoma State, which shot a 316 but finished eight strokes behind CU-Colorado Springs.

Cal State-Chico, the No. 1 ranked team in NCAA Division II, shot a tournament-best 280 (8-under par) to pass host UC-Davis for the team title. The tournamentâ€TMs 16-team field included five teams ranked among the top 20 in Division II and seven among the top 30, as well as three Division I schools.

The Aggie Invitational continued CU-Colorado Springsâ€TM strategy of playing against many of the nationâ€TMs best teams this spring. The Mountain Lions will pplay a tournament in Colorado for the first time in 2004 when they compete in the Colorado Mines/Regis Invitational on Sunday and Monday.

Trent Daum shot a final-round score of 77 Tuesday and was the Mountain Lionsâ€TM top individual finisher. His three-round score of 230 tied him for 44th overall.
