Mountain Lions top D-II team after first round at Air Force
The University of Colorado at Colorado Springs shot a 298 Friday, the lowest score posted by any of the four NCAA Division II schools competing at the Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational.
The Mountain Lions were 12th overall after Fridayâ€TMs first round. The other two rounds of the three-round tournament will be played Saturday and Sunday.
Division I Texas-El Paso shot a remarkable 6-under par 282 to lead the tournament. New Mexico was second with a 287, and Denver shot a 288 for third.
Junior Mark Ruybalid and sophomore Nick Van Etten each shot a 1-over par 73, tied for 30th overall, to lead CU-Colorado Springs. Trenton Daum was one stroke back, while J.P. Wertz and Pomakai Shishido each shot 77.
Grand Canyon was second among Division II competitors, just one stroke behind the Mountain Lions.
