CLEVELAND, Ohio - After a top-20 national finish for the University of Colorado Colorado Springs at the NCAA Division II Women's Cross Country Championships last weekend, the Mountain Lions are No. 40 in the first release of the Learfield Sports Directors Cup standings released this morning. The first fall edition included the national finishes from field hockey and men's and women's cross country.

UCCS placed No. 20 at the national championships last Saturday in Spokane, Wash., in its second straight trip to the national meet. The back-to-back national appearances is a first in program history. Veronica Sandoval led the Mountain Lions in the championships with a No. 55 among the 244 runners who competed.

The RMAC had three schools in the top 10 of the Directors Cup standings, and six in the top 50 out of 305 Division II schools, with all of the conference points from the cross country championships. The Learfield Sports Directors Cup awarded points to each institution for performance at the national championships, and the school with the highest point total in seven men's and seven women's sports will be awarded the Directors Cup in June.
