UCCS Records Fourth-Best Learfield Cup Finish
CLEVELAND - The University of Colorado Colorado Springs recorded a pair of top 10 national finishes for the fourth-best finish in school history in the 2013 Learfield Sports Division II Directors Cup standings released this morning. The Mountain Lions placed No. 101 out of 312 Division II teams in the United States and Canada.
UCCS scored points with a No. 10 national finish in both women's cross country and men's golf, and scored with a No. 11 national finish in men's cross country. Points are awarded to institutions for their best finish in the NCAA postseason for up to seven men's and seven women's sports.
UCCS placed fifth among RMAC schools in the best national finish since the 2004-05 season. The Mountain Lions improved 85 spots from last year's standing with three scoring teams in the Learfield Cup.
The Mountain Lions finished sixth in the RMAC All-Sport Competition Cup to match the best finish in the history of the competition. UCCS hosted four conference postseason events in 2012-13, won the men's golf championship and earned the NCAA Division II President's Award for Academic Excellence.
