UCCS Sixth in RMAC All-Sport Standings with One Weekend Left
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The University of Colorado Colorado Springs moved down to sixth in the latest RMAC All-Sport Competition Standings compiled by the Mountain Lion Sports Information Office. The standings will go final next week after the final regular season weekend for baseball and the conference track and field championships next Sunday through Tuesday.
The Mountain Lions have 680.5 points going into the final weekend of competition after scoring went final in softball. It's nearly 200 points more than last year's point total when UCCS finished No. 12 in the standings.
UCCS is 13.5 points behind Colorado State-Pueblo, who gained additional points after moving from fourth to third in the conference baseball standings. The Mountain Lions are 54 points ahead of seventh-place Western State. UCCS finished as high as sixth in the RMAC All-Sport standings in the 1998-99 season, but haven't finished any higher than No. 10 in the last 10 years.
Points are awarded for baseball using the current RMAC standings, and for track and field based on the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association South Central Region rankings. Schools are scored based on the final results of the core sports (football or men's soccer, men's and women's basketball and volleyball), and in three wild card sports for men and women. These wild card points come from the top three finishes in a sport that the RMAC sponsors a championship in that is not considered a core sport.
