Golf Championship Moves UCCS Into 5th in RMAC All-Sport Standings
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The University of Colorado Colorado Springs men's golf championship this week moved the Mountain Lions into fifth in the updated RMAC All-Sport Standings compiled by the UCCS Sports Information Office. The Mountain Lions are in position to record their best finish in the all-sport cup in school history.
UCCS has 692.5 points based on the final results from the fall and winter sports, and from the spring sports completed and those that are still in season. It's more than 200 points from last year's total when the Mountain Lions finished No. 12 in the standings.
UCCS is 21.5 points behind Metro State in the standings and 2.5 points ahead of CSU-Pueblo. The Mountain Lions finished as high as sixth in the RMAC All-Sport Cup in the 1997-98 season, but haven't finished any higher than No. 10 in the last 10 years.
Points went final last week in the sports of men's and women's tennis and men's and women's golf. Softball points will be finalized this weekend after the completion of the regular season for softball, for baseball on the weekend of May 3-5 and for track and field after the conference championships May 5-7.
Points are awarded for baseball and softball using the current RMAC standings, and for track and field based on the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association South Central Region rankings.
Schools are scored based on the final results of the core sports (football or men's soccer, men's and women's basketball and volleyball), and in three wild card sports for men and women. These wild card points come from the top three finishes in a sport that the RMAC sponsors a championship in that is not considered a core sport.
