COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - One of the most successful athletic semesters in the history of the University of Colorado Colorado Springs also came with success in the classroom as Mountain Lion student-athletes recorded a 17th consecutive semester with a grade point average above 3.0. Fourteen student-athletes earned the President's List with a semester GPA of 4.0 and 23 earned a spot on the Dean's List with a GPA between 3.75 and 3.99.

The Mountain Lions earned an average semester grade of 3.27 in fall 2012. The achievement comes during the same semester when UCCS earned a top 25 ranking in the NCSA Athletic Recruiting Collegiate Power Rankings for Division II institutions. UCCS was also one of 24 Division II schools to earn the President's Award for Academic Excellence from the NCAA.

Each program maintained a team GPA greater than 3.00 during a season that ranked among the most successful in UCCS history. The men's cross country team matched its best finish at the national championships with a No. 11 place performance, while the women's cross country team finished at No. 10 at the national meet. The men's soccer team advanced to the RMAC semifinals since 2001 and won its first playoff game since 1998, while the women's soccer team tied for third in the conference standings and hosted a conference tournament game for the first time in the five-year history of the program.

The Mountain Lion volleyball team qualified for the RMAC tournament posted the longest home winning streak since 1993. Men's golf finished the fall season in No. 43 in the GolfStat national rankings and was receiving votes in the latest Golf Coaches Association of America national poll.

The season also marked the fourth Academic All-American in UCCS history, with Mash Shaswar's selection to the third team for Division II men's soccer. The Mountain Lions also placed four student-athletes on RMAC All-Academic First Teams, five on the second teams and 13 on the honor rolls. Nine student-athletes or student assistant coaches also received degrees during the winter commencement in December.
