UCCS Ninth in First Division II Directors' Cup Standings
CLEVELAND, Ohio - Two finishes in the top 11 of the national cross country championships put the University of Colorado Colorado Springs in ninth in the first fall release of the Learfield Sports Directors' Cup standings. The all-sport competition included the national results from the men's and women's cross country and women's field hockey championships.
The Mountain Lions finished No. 10 in the women's national championships and No. 11 in the men's national championships last Saturday in Joplin, Mo. The women's performance was the second-best in program history, while the men tied for the best finish in program history. Megan Burrell earned All-America honors for UCCS for the first time in women's cross country since 2008.
The two finishes combined for 133.5 points for UCCS, which surpassed the totals for the entire year for the Mountain Lion athletic department in each of the previous five years.
The next update to the standings will take place on Dec. 6 after the conclusion of the men's and women's national championships. The Learfield Sports Directors' Cup measures the top overall athletic department in each division in up to seven men's and seven women's sports at the national championships.
