The Olympics: Then and Now. September 19, 3pm -- 4:30pm.
Dr. Michael Poliakoff, Vice President of Academic Affairs, University of Colorado System, will address the organization, impact and purpose of the original Olympics. Dr. Poliakoff has a doctorate in classical studies from the University of Michigan. Before coming to the University of Colorado he was president of the National Council on Teacher Quality and has led major strategic efforts at the National Endowment for the Humanities to strengthen the teaching and learning of the humanities in American schools, colleges and universities.
Ms. Glen Werner Roseboom, Director, US Olympic Training Center Colorado Springs, will address the modern day Olympic Movement. She received her bachelor of arts degree in social work from the College of St. Benedict in 1993 and a masters of education, sport management, from Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, Ill., in 1998. She was appointed Director of the Olympic Training Center in August 2007. She has extensive experience with the Olympic movement and the Training Center, where she has been working since 1992.
