Cartwright gets grant to attend NCAA conference
Sarah Cartwright, the senior women's administrator and NCAA rules and compliance coordinator for UCCS, received a grant to attend the 2005 National Association of Collegiate Women Athletics Administrators Convention.
After being nominated to attend this conference, she received one of 25 grants given by the NCAA Division II President's Council. Although this conference is held every year in the fall, this will be Cartwright's first time attending. This conference is held in Kansas City, Mo., at the Westin Crown Center from 8-11th of October.
NACWAA is an organization that helps make college sports the best they can be by providing classes that help women in athletics succeed. With people from all different universities attending the conference, there will be opportunities to interact with other women in athletics and learn new ideas to bring back to the school. There are a variety of classes available such as fund raising ideas, work/life balance, sessions on prioritizing the well-being of today's student athlete, and more. There will also be an awards dinner with a speech given by the president of the NCAA. The mayor of Kansas City will also make an appearance at the conference.
Sarah said she feels honored to attend and is excited to see the culture. She is looking forward to meeting others with more experience so she may bring their expertise back to UCCS. She believes the conference will be beneficial to the athletic department and the school.
