Colorado College downs UCCS 8-1
Colorado College beat the UCCS women's tennis team 8-1 Tuesday afternoon at the Country Club of Colorado.
The Mountain Lions lone point came at the No. 5 spot where Laura Backlin beat Corinne Biannca 6-1, 6-2. This came as no surprise as Backlin has been on quite a roll lately. The win was Backlin's fifth straight as she improved her record to 6-3 overall.
"Laura has a lot of confidence and enthusiasm especially for a freshman " said Mountain Lion coach Matt Hays. "She doesn't think she should lose to anyone."
Colorado College put UCCS in a big hole early as the Tigers swept the doubles matches, winning all three by identical 8-4 scores.
Natascha Vander Molen and Nikki Duvall both played very well early in their singles matches. Vander Molen lost a tough-luck opening set 7-6 to Hillary Zellerbach at the No. 2 slot. Zellerbach put Vander Molen away 6-3 in the second. Duvall lost 7-5, 6-3 to Trista Fox at No. 6.
UCCS finishes it regular season this weekend with a pair of home matches against Fort Hays State and Nebraska-Kearney.
