Voorhies advances at Bose International

Sean Voorhies beat Shawn Baker of the New Mexico Military Institute 6-2, 6-2 to advance to the second round of the Bose International Indoor Tennis Championships at Santa Fe, N.M. Friday.

Also advancing for the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs was the Mountain Lions' No. 2 doubles tandem of Jason Schultz and Eric Rivera, who were given a bye in the first round.

Voorhies will face Cal State-Fullerton's Andre Begemann in the quarterfinal round Saturday morning. Rivera and Schultz will face Daniel Scholten and Fabricio Sestini, also of Cal State-Fullerton, in the afternoon.

In other singles action Friday, Josh Johnson lost a tiebreaker in Game 1 against Fullerton's Anibal Aranda before falling 6-1 in Game 2. Schultz and Rivera also lost their first-round singles matches.

In doubles, Johnson and Voorhies were edged 8-6 by Jamie George and Eduardo Provencia, who were not attached to a school. Jason Bisanti and Marc Knutila lost 8-3 to Texas Christian's Craig Stopa and Andrew Ulrich.
