Voorhies, Johnson stay unbeaten in sweep

Sean Voorhies and Josh Johnson remained unbeaten in singles play on the season as the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs men's tennis team swept a pair of matches Saturday at Cheyenne Mountain High School.

The Mountain Lions beat Western New Mexico 8-1 in the morning match, then came back in the afternoon to top Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference rival Mesa State 5-4. UCCS is now 4-1, 3-1 in the RMAC.

Voorhies improved to 5-0 at No. 1 singles by topping Western New Mexico's Renato Varella 6-0, 6-0 and Mesa State's Rich Tift 7-6, 6-2. Johnson upped his record at No. 4 singles to 4-0 with wins over Western New Mexico's Rene Magana (6-1, 6-2) and Mesa State's Adam Byrne (6-2, 6-4).

UCCS swept all three doubles matches against Western New Mexico. Voorhies, Johnson, Eric Rivera, Jason Schultz and Marc Knutila all won their singles matches as well.

The Mountain Lions took two of the afternoon matches three double matches against Mesa State, with the No. 2 tandem of Rivera and Schultz improving to 4-0 on the season.

Jason Bisanti, who was the only non winner in the morning match, came back in the afternoon to top Ryan Pena 6-4, 1-6, 1-0 (10-4).
