Martell Leads UCCS in Rust Buster

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Angie Martell led the University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's cross country team at the sixth annual Rust Buster open cross country meet held Saturday morning at Monument Valley Park in downtown Colorado Springs.  The Mountain Lions had six of their runners place in the top 10 among 35 runners.

"Angie looked great," said Head Women's Cross Country Coach David Harmer. "She smashed a goal for the race of 15 minutes flat."

Martell finished the course in 14 minutes, 57 seconds and third overall. Also running strong for UCCS was Veronica Sandoval, Alyssa Andrews, and Sarah Treese. Sandoval finished in 15:30 to steal sixth, Andrews took seventh with a time of 15:42, and Treese close behind with a time of 15:44 for eighth overall for the four-kilometer course.

"The goal of the meet was to see good solid effort and come out healthy," Harmer said. "And we achieved that."

Up Next: The Mountain Lions compete on September 21 at the Spokane Erik Anderson Invitational.
