SPOKANE, Wash. - The No. 16 University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's cross country team will be competing Saturday, Nov. 23, at the NCAA Division II National Championships in Spokane, Wash.  UCCS has qualified for the national championships in back-to-back seasons as a team for the first time in program history after last season's No. 10 national finish.

The Mountain Lions finished fifth at the NCAA Division II South Central Region Championships in Canyon, Texas.  The top six teams from the regional championships advanced to the national championships, and UCCS will be joined in Spokane by RMAC members Adams State, Western State and Metro State.

Saturday will be the second race of the season for the Mountain Lions at the Plants Ferry Athletic Complex. UCCS finished second among Division II teams and fourth among all teams at the national preview meet on Sept. 21. Angie Martell finished third individually for Division II and No. 10 among all collegiate runners in the race.

Thirty-two teams and 248 runners will be competing for the national cross country championship on Saturday morning. It will be the second time in the last three years that the Division II championships will take place in Spokane. In 2011, snow fell during both men's and women's races. Saturday's forecast is clear, but temperatures at race time will be around freezing.

The six-kilometer race will take begin at 10:30 a.m. PST, 11:30 a.m. MST. The NCAA will provide a live broadcast of the race, and Prime Time Results will provide live splits and results for the race.
