NEW ORLEANS - The University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's cross country team is ranked fourth in the latest U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association South Central Regional Polls released Tuesday morning.

The Mountain Lions competed in warm temperatures in the season-opening Rust Buster on Sept. 7, in Colorado Springs. Angie Martell led UCCS and finished third overall on the four-kilometer course at Monument Valley Park.

UCCS dropped down one spot from the preseason regional rankings after Metro State moved from sixth to third. The top six teams at the regional championships will advance to the national championships.

UCCS will be competing at the Spokane Erik Anderson Invitational on Saturday in Spokane, Wash. The course will be the same course used for the national championships in November.
