Mountain Lions Ranked Third in Regional Preseason Rankings
NEW ORLEANS - The University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's cross country team will begin the 2013 season ranked third in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Association South Central Region Preseason Rankings released this afternoon. The Mountain Lions placed third in last season's regional championships and No. 10 at the national championships.
UCCS returns six of the seven runners who competed at the national championships last season. Veronica Sandoval, Madison Neher and Angie Martell were All-RMAC and all-region runners last season and helped lead the Mountain Lions to their second-best finish at the national championships in program history.
The top six teams at the regional championships on Nov. 9, in Canyon, Texas, will advance to the national championships Nov. 23, in Spokane, Wash. The Mountain Lions have advanced to the national championships five times in program history.
UCCS will open the 2013 season at home with the Rust Buster at Monument Valley Park on Sept. 7. The women's four-kilometer run will begin at 10 a.m., and unattached runners can register before the meet at Direct Athletics.
