Mountain Lions Third at Colorado College Invitational
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The No. 16 University of Colorado Colorado Springs men's cross country team finished third in the Colorado College Invitational at Monument Valley Park this morning.
Bryce Gregoire finished first for the Mountain Lions and secured the seventh spot among collegiate runners with a time of 26 minutes, 54 seconds, on the eight-kilometer course.
Luke Dakin, Mitch Klomp, Matt Winfrey and Nick Baca also finished strong for the men's team. Team captain Dakin finished No. 18 overall in 27:10. It was Dakin's first competitive race since the outdoor track and field season in May. Klomp and Winfrey finished seconds apart to take No. 22 and No. 23 with 27:19 and 27:22.
"The team is looking good," Gregoire said. "We all push each other."
UCCS runners who had competed in the previous Colorado College Invitational improved their times today on the eight-kilometer course.
"It was a good day," said Head Cross Country Coach Mark Misch. "We ran conservative and worked our way into the race. It was a very talented field with Adams State and Metro State."
Adams State is currently ranked No. 1 in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association national polls released earlier in the week.
The Mountain Lions will be competing Oct. 5, in the Metro State Invitational in Denver, Colo., at 9 a.m.
