COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The University of Colorado Colorado Springs men's cross country team is gearing up for their 2013 season starting Saturday. The Mountain Lions are one of less than 20 Division II men's teams, out of 285 programs, who have qualified for the NCAA Championships three times in the past five seasons.

"For us it's all about the regional and national Championships in November," said Men's Head Cross Country Coach Mark Misch when asked about goals for the season. "The main focus athletically is to qualify for the national championships and be prepared to place as high as we possibly can that day." Last year the men placed No. 11 overall.

With 25 men on the roster, it's the biggest men's cross country team in the 18 year history of the program. The experience and talent is definitely present with 13 returners including this season's team captain Luke Dakin, and 12 newcomers. The new team graduate assistant, Coach Jeff Wilson, is going to be pushing the runners to throughout the season as he joins the program.

The Mountain Lions open the 2013 season Sept. 7, in the Rust Buster Open at 9:15 a.m., in Monument Valley Park.
