NEW ORLEANS - The University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's cross country team was picked sixth in the preseason South Central Region Poll released by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association earlier this week. The Mountain Lions were one of eight RMAC teams ranked in the top 10 of the regional poll.

UCCS finished No. 11 in last year's Central Region championships, which included the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference. The 2012 regional shift for Division II will move the Mountain Lions and the rest of the RMAC into the South Central Region with the Heartland Conference and Lone Star Conference.

UCCS was also picked sixth in the RMAC Preseason Coaches' Poll last week. The Mountain Lions return all seven runners from last year's regional championship team.

The top five teams from the regional championships, scheduled for Nov. 3, in Denver, Colo., will advance to the national championships on Nov. 17, in Joplin, Mo.
