Mountain Lions Place Fourth at Regionals with Three All-Region Runners
DENVER, Colo. - Emilio Trujillo led three University of Colorado Colorado Springs all-region runners as the Mountain Lions placed fourth at this morning's NCAA Division II South Central Region Championships this morning at Willis Case Golf Course in Denver. The performance qualifies the Mountain Lions for the national championships for the second straight season.
Trujillo ran with the lead pack throughout the first two laps of the race and finished No. 14 overall in 32 minutes and 50 seconds on the 10-kilometer course. Sam Feldotto finished in No. 22 and Oliver Williams placed No. 25 for the all-region performers for UCCS this morning.
The three all-region performers in a single season are the most for the Mountain Lions in program history, and nearly doubled the number of all-time all-region performers. The trio was the first runners from UCCS to earn the all-region honor since 2004.
Feldotto and Oliver finished within a five-second margin of each other in 33:15 and 33:20, respectively. Ryan Derrick and Luke Dakin finished as the final UCCS scoring runners in No. 28 and No. 29 overall.
The performance qualifies UCCS for the national championships in two weeks for the second straight season and the fourth time in program history. Combined with the qualifying performance for the women, UCCS is sending both men's and women's teams to the national championships for the first time since 2004.
