Trujillo Leads No. 9 UCCS to Fourth-Place Finish at RMAC Championships
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Emilio Trujillo turned in the best finish for a University of Colorado Colorado Springs men's cross country runner since 1998 and the second-best individual conference finish in program history to lead the No. 9 Mountain Lions to a fourth-place finish at this morning's RMAC Cross Country Championships at Monument Valley Park.
Trujillo and Mike English both earned all-conference honors for their individual performances today. The fourth-place finish was the best team performance since the 2005 championships.
Trujillo finished the eight-kilometer course in 25 minutes, 32.8 seconds and seventh overall after running with the main pack through most of the race. His finish was the best since All-American's Trent Briney placed fifth at the 1998 RMAC Championships.
English finished in 26:08.50 and No. 18 overall. The two leading Mountain Lions were the first to earn All-RMAC honors since the system expanded to the first, second and third teams at the 2007 championships. It's the first time since the 2004 championships and the second time in program history that UCCS has finished with two all-conference runners in the same season.
Ryan Derrick and Sam Feldotto finished No. 26 and No. 27, respectively, as the third and fourth scoring runners for the Mountain Lions. Luke Dakin finished No. 31 overall in 26:45.60 to round out the scoring for UCCS, which finished with the best team score since 2004.
UCCS finished behind three teams that were ranked ahead of the Mountain Lions in the latest national poll.
Up Next: The Mountain Lions will take next weekend off to prepare for the 2012 NCAA Division II South Central Region Championships in Denver. The top six teams from the meet, which features teams from the RMAC, Lone Star Conference and Heartland Conference, will advance to the national championships on Nov. 17 in Joplin, Mo.
