#13 UCCS Wins Colorado College Invitational with Perfect Score
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Emilio Trujillo won his second race of the season with 26 minutes, eight seconds on the eight-kilometer course to lead the University of Colorado Colorado Springs men's cross country team to a perfect score victory this morning at the Colorado College Invitational at Monument Valley Park.
The Mountain Lions finished in the first six positions and nine of the top 11 overall. Trujillo and Mike English finished within two seconds of each other, while a pack of Sam Feldotto, Oliver Williams and Ryan Derrick all finished together in 27 minutes. Luke Dakin finished in sixth overall in 27:13 before the first runner not from UCCS finished seventh in 27:21.
Ted Schultz, William Edwards and Ian Penn took the spots from ninth through No. 11. Matt Winfrey made it 10 Mountain Lions in the top 15 overall with 27:46 with his No. 15 finish.
"It was a good day," said Head Cross Country Coach Mark Misch. "We were very controlled up top, and our young guys did well."
The Mountain Lions also had the top unattached runners, with Seth Polich in No. 17 to lead the group in 28:15. He finished ahead of the top runner from Oklahoma Panhandle State, and joined Mitch Klomp and Alex Nelson to finish ahead of the top runner from Ottawa University.
The next-closest team was Colorado College, which finished with 66 points.
Up Next: The Mountain Lions will take next week off before competing at the Roy Griak Invitational in Minneapolis on Sept. 29.
