Trujillo Wins Men's Rust Buster
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Emilio Trujillo became the second University of Colorado Colorado Springs male runner to win the individual title at the Rust Buster Meet held this morning at Monument Valley Park in downtown Colorado Springs. Trujillo rank the six-kilometer course in 18 minutes, 51.30 seconds and was the top collegiate runner by more than nine seconds.
The No. 13 ranked Mountain Lions finished with three runners in the top eight of the overall results and five of the top 12 collegiate runners. Mike English placed seventh overall in 19:50.5 with Oliver Williams behind him in eighth with 19:19.6. Sam Feldotto and Ryan Derrick rounded out the top five runners for UCCS in No. 12 and No. 14, respectively, to beat out the fifth-best runner from Division I Wyoming.
The top five Mountain Lions finished ahead of the second-best runner from No. 19 Metro State and the third-best runner from No. 18 New Mexico Highlands.
"I felt like it was a great day overall for our program on many levels and we got the efforts we were looking for out of the meet," said Head Cross Country Coach Mark Misch. "It was also super to have the support of friends and family out there as well. Thanks to all of the volunteers who helped make the meet possible."
Up Next: The Mountain Lions will be back on the same course this Saturday for the Colorado College Invitational. The eight-kilometer race begins at 9 a.m. at Monument Valley Park.
