Four Mountain Lions Named Cross Country All-Academic
COLORADO SPRINGS - Four members of the University of Colorado Colorado Springs cross country teams were named to the 2011 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Men's Cross Country All-Academic teams. Michael Johnson was named first-team all-academic, while Casey Weaver, Mike English and Ian Penn were all named second-team all-academic.
Johnson, a senior from Littleton, Colo., has a 3.76 gpa in Mechanical Engineering. He took 35th at the RMAC Championships and followed that up with a 39th-place showing at the NCAA Central Regional.
Weaver is a senior from Carbondale, Colo., and posted a 3.74 gpa in accounting. English is a junior from Thornton, Colo., and has a 3.40 gpa in Finance and Penn is a sophomore from Briargate, Colo., and has a 3.80 gpa in Entrepreneurship.
The teams were selected by Sports Information Directors at schools in the RMAC that sponsor men's cross country. To qualify for Academic All-RMAC, student-athletes must have a grade point average (GPA) of 3.30 or better, be a starter or reserve, and completed two consecutive semesters or three quarters at their current institution. Their GPA is cumulative, prior to cross country season beginning.
