Rust Buster Preview

A field of eight teams is set for the Third Annual Rust Buster Invitational on Saturday, September 11th. Joining the UCCS Mountain Lions will be runners from the Air Force Academy, University of Denver, Colorado College, Metro State, Colorado State-Pueblo, Johnson & Wales and Crown College out of Minnesota. All the teams will have entries in both the men's and women's races except for Colorado State-Pueblo, who will only enter a women's team.

 

In a change from last year the Boulder Running Company will host an open race to start the day of racing at 8:30 am. The men's 6,000 meter race will then follow and the women's 4,000 meter competition concludes the Rust Buster Invitational. Open registration begins at 7 am.

Last year the UCCS men's and women's teams were largely young and inexperienced. This year the Mountain Lions have a lot of depth and experience returning along with a solid in coming freshman class. It should be a great season for UCCS cross-country and it all begins this coming Saturday.

The grass was long and wet with some remnants of the overnight frost in some shaded areas. It is all the making of classic cross-country conditions. It was also the makings of a great day for UCCS cross-country.
September 11, 2010The Rust was BustedIt was beautiful Saturday at Monument Valley Park for the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs to host the Rust Buster Open. The Rust Buster was a low-key early season preparation race with no team score kept. The full race plan for UCCS will come into action three weeks from now in Boulder.
