The University of Colorado at Colorado Springs announced Monday that Mark Misch has been hired to coach the Mountain Lions' cross country and track and field teams.

Misch will be the first full-time cross country/track coach at UCCS. He succeeds Graeme Badger, who initiated the program at UCCS in 1996.

"I am thrilled and excited about this opportunity to say the least," said Misch in an email to the UCCS Athletic Department staff. "You guys have a great staff of folks with great attitudes and I can't wait to get there and get things going as well."

Misch has worked with Athletes in Action the past two years, where he recruited and coached for the organization's track and field programs. During his time with AIA, he traveled to New Zealand, Finland, Kenya and Australia.

Before that, he was the head cross country and track and field coach at Southwest Baptist where he built the program from scratch. While there, he coached 32 all-conference performers and, more importantly, 22 academic all-Americans.

Misch comes to UCCS with previous experience in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. He was an assistant coach at Fort Hays State, which was then a member of the RMAC, from 1998-2000. He also coached at the high school level in Denver (Alameda HS) and Coffeyville, Kan.

As an athlete, Misch was an 11-time all-conference honoree in cross country and track at Baker University in Baldwin City, Kan.
