Mountain Lions Place Third at Lobo Invitational

Shannon Payne finished fourth behind three Division I runners in the Lobo Invitational in the Women's 6k on Saturday. Payne's finish helped the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs Mountain Lions finish third as a team.

Payne, who was named the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Cross Country Runner of the week for the first week of the season, finished the 6k event in 22 minutes, 7 seconds. Payne's finish was just seven seconds behind first-place finisher Meredith Snow from Texas A&M.

Sarah Shepard was not far behind her teammate finishing eighth with a time of 23:21.

Ashley Birger and Jenna Dorsey-Spitz rounded off the top four finishers for the Mountanin Lions finishing 13th and 17th respectively.

Lisa Short finished 30th while Christy Severy finished 43rd.

The Mountain Lions finished behind two Division I teams, Texas A&M and New Mexico, with and average team time of 23:36.60. The Mountain Lions defeated 10 other teams including Division I UTEP and LSU. The Mountain Lions also finished ahead of the only other RMAC teams competing, Fort Lewis, New Mexico Highlands and Regis.
